Book Description
This book is an ambitious yet mandatory effort. It is a product of the experience of the transgender persons in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu state, India. To state simply, this book provides the rudiments of the nature, sociological problems, health issues, festivals and celebration and government and non-governmental support and policies for the transgender women. The information of all these aspects is necessary for revamping the idea of the common people towards the third gender. The value of this book is further enhanced with the addition of case studies of transgender women which gave the detail picture of the critical situation that the transgender women experienced in their childhood age when they were with their biological parents and while with their peer groups in schools. It also evidenced the poor life of the transgender women when they are abandoned by their natal family and lived with their transgender family associates. This book would be of definite interest to the students, research scholars of Gender Studies, Population Studies, Demography, Sociology, Social Work, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Literature, Law and other related fields, Media personnel, Women's Rights Activists and Policy Makers.
