Book Description

The Nobel Prize winning Austrian Physicist Erwin Schrödinger was apparently noted as saying “The task is, not so much to see what no one has yet seen; but to think what nobody has thought, about that which everybody sees.” I believe that this is what my father spent a life time doing. He thought outside the square. He utilized his very own methods. It's a lonely pursuit to endeavour (thinking differently from others), however dad persisted. His life was dedicated not only to finding answers, but to creating the questions not many would dare or think to ask. Small talk was not big on his agenda. Whatever subject I would approach dad with he would always offer an in depth response that would often lead me to a brand new way of thinking. He was not only extremely passionate about his own thoughts and revelations, but about encouraging others (of course including myself) to trust their individual exploration of thought. The greatest gift that my father gave to me was freedom of thought. I remember telling him as a teen that I would like to study Psychology. He urged me to first develop my own ideas before learning about others. Just last year I told him that I'd like to learn from him and his response was that he was learning from me. Appreciating or even understanding mathematics for that matter didn't come easy to him at first. Dad struggled very much to comprehend mathematics as a child throughout his schooling. It wasn't until he came into contact with certain people along his educational journey that his perception and grasp was strengthened. Along the way a determination within him was born, and I guess you could say never left him. That is a story in itself, and one I wish that he was here to tell. Terminal illness befell upon him earlier this year and his descent was rapid. Right up until his final days dad was striving to complete the work he had spent a lifetime developing. His dream was to have it finished, published and presented to the mathematical thinkers of this world. During his last days I promised that I would do all that I could to see this come to fruition. I would like to thank Emeritus Professor Tony Shannon not only for his dedication and efforts into making this a reality, but for believing in my dad's work and continuously engaging with him for over 40 years. We all need inspiration to embark on whatever it is that we wish to pursue, however we also need at least one person to believe in us and to offer encouragement. I'm very proud to have dad's work published, and I ask that you consider his notions with an open heart and mind. This was his life…
