Book Description
Special stains are considered to be important for many histopathologists. They provide colour to the tissue. They are always considered to be special apart from the normal stains used in the laboratories. This special stain depends on the chemical reaction which is required for the identication of various cells and tissues. In addition with the hematoxylin and eosin stain (H&E) the special stains are applied to the tissue sections. Special stains began to be used in histopathology after 1876 when hematoxylin and eosin stain was introduced. Special stains remains as a powerful tool in various diagnostic techniques likeimmunohistochemistry, ow cytometry, in situ hybridization that ultimately denes a patient's medical status. Many special stains are a key to detect and identify pathogens, while others play an important role in diagnosing and monitoring cancer.
