Book Description

Forensic science is an intriguing specialty, employed across the globe to resolve civil disputes, to justly enforce criminal laws and government regulations, and to protect public health.1 With the surge in population worldwide, the crime rate has laterally escalated, the 'Modus Operandi' of criminals has subsequently advanced which jeopardize the stability and safety of the populace internationally. Forensic plays a cardinal role in ensuring security and establishing the guilt or innocence of potential suspects, thereby is of great signicance.2 It is an important wing, comprised of an extensive network, which is fractionized into many branches, some of the major branches include: forensic biology, forensic chemistry, forensic anthropology, forensic dentistry, forensic behavioral sciences etc.3 The word forensic comes from the Latin word 'forensic' meaning public to the forum or public discussion; argumentative, rhetorical, belonging to debate or discussion.3 The most acceptable denition of forensic dentistry or forensic odontology (FO) according to Brig. D. V. Taylor (1968) is “The application of dental knowledge to the elucidation of legal problems.” It was further dened by Keiser–Nielson (1980) as “The branch of forensic medicine which in the interest of justice deals with the proper handling and examination of dental evidence and with the proper evaluation and presentation of the dental findings.3
