Book Description

I would like to express my gratitude to many people for helping directly and indirectly to make this book possible. I am very much grateful for a number of friends and colleagues in encouraging to start this interesting work, preserve it and nally to publish it. I am extremely thankful to Dr. Robert W. Vernon, Professional Geologist, UK, Mr. Melville J. Davies, The University of Western Australia, Crawley, for providing valuable help by providing the research papers and reviewing the manuscript. My thanks to several mining professionals from various organizations, academic institutions who inspired me to write this book which took over 5 years to bring into this form and shape. The very purpose of writing this book is to preserve, explore and share the complex and complicated history of gold mining in India. This all reects acknowledgement that today's “Mining” will be tomorrow's “Mining History and Heritage”. The book has been prepared out of consultation of several published research papers, old mining journals, periodicals, company brochures, handouts, mining history books and related articles available from different Web-resources, and also discussions held from old retired miners, who worked earlier in those mines. Thanks to Mr. K. Ashok Kumar who has shaped the entire book with his computer skills. Nobody has been more important to me in the pursuit of this project than the members of my family. I would like to thank my late parents, whose love and blessings are with me in whatever I pursue. Most importantly, I wish to thank my loving and supportive wife, Ramani and my two wonderful daughters, Kiran and Anasuya, who provided unending inspiration.
