Book Description

Intravenous urography or IVP in short has been performed since 1929 in the evaluation of urinary tract for a variety of disorders. These days the technique has been has near completely replaced by CT urography. The concept of CT urography is attractive as both the renal parenchyma and urothelium can be evaluated with a single comprehensive examination. CT urography potentially shortens the overall length of the patient's schedule for diagnostic evaluation and in recent times it has become definitive imaging study for evaluating patients with hematuria. Numerous scientific papers and research articles in the literature have demonstrated the superiority of CT urography for evaluating patients with urinary complaints to IVP, ultrasound and MRI. CT has been used since many years in the evaluation of pathologies of the urinary tract for renal neoplasms, trauma, infection, stones, and so on. The advent of multi-slice or multidetector CT scanners has resulted in acquisition of 3D and volumetric images with spatial resolution that outclasses conventional radiography and IVP. CT urography involves the examination of entire urinary tract both before and after the administration of intravenous contrast material and allows fast and comprehensive evaluation of the urinary tract in a single sitting. We chose to write a book in this regard to help the medical students, junior and and senior residents and busy practitioner who are interested in a concise summary of the field. The book provides an insight into the introduction including history of uroradiology, Techniques of Performing CT urography including CT protocols and its modifications and Radiation Concerns in CT urography and future developments. Important and common cases with images and descriptions are also provided at the end of the book. The book reviews the common entities diagnosed with CT urography and we hope to help radiologists, urologists, nephrologists, and other clinicians who are interested in imaging of the urinary tract
