Book Description

Research is sine qua non for the progress of a country. Research in social science dissects the social problems and processes for designing suitable interventions for social progress. The book at hand is the outcome of doctoral research of the authors. In a time when we hear about employability and skill gaps, at the same time we also listen about schemes like 'Start-Up India', 'Stand-Up India', etc. India has also improved her ranking in the 'Ease of Doing Business'. All of these suggest that time is ripe to reap entrepreneurs, who will generate jobs instead of search for jobs. Entrepreneurship in small scale businesses would also have many attendant advantages like mobilization of local resources and promotion of regional growth. Local talent can be tapped and local resources optimally utilized. The book analyses the status of small scale entrepreneurs in four backward districts of Karnataka. It identies the nature of entrepreneurship, conditions which helped them to evolve, their problems and utilization of the government facilities available. A number of earlier works have been reviewed and this will denitely be a source material for the future researchers. The research design should also serve as a beacon light for the future researchers on this topic. A number of relevant policy suggestions have been offered for improving the entrepreneurship in small industries in backward regions. A number of insights are thrown open for contemplation as well as for undertaking further research. The book, therefore, will be quite useful to prospective entrepreneurs, academicians, government and business people. I complement the authors for bringing to light new issues that have been well-researched and documented.
