Book Description

Deep neck space infections are a commonly encountered problem in ENT practice, more so in developing countries like India. They show high morbidity and mortality, however the mortality can be brought down by early diagnosis and timely management. Deep neck space infections may simply be defined as infections that spread along fascial planes of the neck and can be divided into superficial and deep neck space infections. Superficial neck space infections are easy to treat as compared to deep neck space infections, which are not only difficult to diagnose early but also problematic to treat. They can have life threatening complications like airway compromise, jugular vein thrombosis, mediastinitis, pericarditis, emphysema, vascular occlusion and cranial extension
