Dr Utpal Jagdish Dongre is currently working as an Assistant Professor and Head, Department of
Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Dr Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur. He has total 12
years of teaching experience in PG. He has completed his M.Sc and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from RTM
Nagpur university, Nagpur. He has cleared CSIR-UGC NET JRF and GATE examinations in 2009 and
2010. He is also completed Post graduate Diploma in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. He is a
member of various academic bodies in RTM Nagpur and Gondwana University. He is published a book
on “Biochemistry” in 2015. In between 2014-2016 he has completed UGC research project sanctioned
by UGC Pune ofce on Mitochondrial DNA mutations, Diabetes Mellitus and Oxidative Stress. At
present he is actively working in nanoparticles and heterocyclic compounds oriented drug treatment in
obesity and diabetes mellitus via modulating mitochondria and cellular biochemistry. His laboratory is
mainly focuses on alterations of nuclear and mitochondrial gene expressions in various cell lines. He
has published more than 18 research articles in international and national reputed journals and
submitted many mitochondrial gene sequences to gene bank. |
| Dr. Virendra G Meshram |  |
Dr Virendra G Meshram has done his post-graduation in Biochemistry in1985 and received Ph.D.
degree from RTM Nagpur university in 1996. He is currently working as a Professor and Head of
Department of Biochemistry in RTM Nagpur University. He has vast teaching experience of 21 years in
UG level and 13 years in PG level. He was visiting faculty in PG department of Microbiology and
Rajeev Gandhi Biotechnology Centre RTM Nagpur University. Also Ex-Director of Rajeev Gandhi
Biotechnology Centre RTM Nagpur University. His area of research is Metabolic and Tropical
Diseases, Analytical Biochemistry and Enzymology, Plant Pathology, Photochemistry of Medicinal
Plants. He has published more than 50 research papers in national and international journals. He has
presented his work in various international conferences including Malasia, Thailand, Shri Lanka etc.
He has submitted many mitochondrial gene sequences to gene bank. He has completed 02 UGC
research projects. |
Book Description
Mitochondria are dynamic organelles found almost in all living organisms and mainly functions to meet cellular energetic demands. However, research on mitochondria in last many decades explore the hidden functions of this organelle not only in phylogenetic but also in medical etiological and pathophysiological studies. As per our current knowledge mitochondria have a past of evolution of over 2 billion years and it is thought that whatever the phenotype that today an organism have is because of this. Many researchers have reported association of mitochondrial DNA mutations with Cancer, Diabetes Mellitus, MELAS, LOHNS etc. Scientic community yet not solved all enigmas of mitochondria in health and diseases, therefore, targeting the mitochondria in Cellular Biochemistry would provide a new platform for upcoming researchers to work on this interesting organelle. Due to high mutation rate, thread like structure and paucity of DNA repair enzyme, this organelle have attended much prominence in research as well as in school and university curriculums. In central India region our laboratory worked a lot on oxidative stress and mitochondrial mutations and feel the urge of theoretical knowledge of this organelle at one platform which must include all aspects right from its origin to the present functions. Hence, we tried to cover maximum aspects of mitochondria in detail in this book, which will denitely help to students and researchers. This book provides an authoritative account of every aspect of mitochondrial biochemistry and physiology with current research, interest and knowledge required by the students. Every topic included in in this book is self-sufcient and has been profusely illustrated with labelled diagrams. Each topic has been written in clear explanatory style. We hope that the text will be found useful by students, researchers and inspire them to specialize further in this led.
