Book Description

Benzazepine derivatives show a very promising biological activity ranging from stress related conditions to their use as antibacterial agents. In view of this fact the compounds belonging to this class were considered as interesting targets in synthesis of compounds of medicinal interest. Greatly encouraged by the bioactive profiles of this heterocyclic system, our aim in the present work is to synthesize benzazepine molecules incorporating in them the structural features of some bioactive pharmacophores which have the previous history of being biologically active, such as oxadiazole, triazole, indole, azaquinazoline etc. on the premise that their presence in tandem in a single molecular framework may contribute significantly to the biological activity in the resultant molecules. It has been known from the literature that incorporation of such pharmacophores in existing drugs tends to enhance the biological activity of the molecules by providing an additive effect on the overall potency of the parent molecules. This aroused our interest to undertake the study to seek the structural modifications of benzazepine nucleus to generate the novel analogues hopefully, with better biological profiles in the new materials.
