Book Description
In the present scenario, power system has various operating states. The system undergoes topology changes and results in to steady and transient state operation. The resulting voltage and current states in a circuit need analysis by different solution methods. The book primarily deals with series circuit due to combination of R-L, R-C & R-L-C elements. The response includes forced and transient type resulting due to step voltage & sinusoidal voltage application. The resulting current equation are first or second order differential equations which are solved by classical & Laplace transform method. The particular solution is due to forced response and complimentary solution is due to source free response. The two responses of the analysis explains energy states before and after switching of circuit. Also charging and discharging phenomena leading to rise and fall of current, takes place in a circuit. Elements L & C controls the complimentary current due to energy storage. Chapter 1 deals with series circuits of R-L, R-C & R-L-C connected to step voltage with initial states of L as open circuit & C as short circuit. The current response by classical and Laplace transform is evaluated and compared. Chapter 2 deals with series circuit of R-L, R-C & R-L-C connected to sinusoidal voltage. Classical and Laplace Transform analysis evaluates similar current response. Laplace Transform method acting as better tool with respect to initial states. The analysis done is helpful in understanding transmission line phenomena, cable termination, switching circuits etc. The book is suitable therefore for BE I course of Electrical Engineering for under graduate class covering Basic Electrical Technology or Transient analysis of series circuit.
