Dr. K. Sharmili | Dr. K.Sharmili, is presently working as Assistant Professor (Agronomy) in Department of
Agriculture and Biosciences, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (Declared as
Deemed to be University under Sec. 3 of the UGC act, 1956), Karunya Nagar, Coimbatore. She
has completed her under graduate in Agricultural college and Research Institute, Killikulam,
followed by Master Degree Programme and Ph.D., from TamilNadu Agricultural University,
Coimbatore. She received Dr. S. Subramanian Award for the Best Ph.D. Crop Research in
Agronomy and have more than three years of working experience in teaching. She has published
one international and 7 national research and review papers. She has also participated in several
national and international seminars, symposiums and trainings. |

Dr. M.Yasodha | Dr. M.Yasodha, is presently working as Assistant Professor (Agronomy) in Karunya Institute of
Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. She has completed her UG Degree Programme in Anbil
Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute, Trichy followed by Master Degree
Programme and Ph.D., in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. She received
research assistant scholarship for securing top rank in the M.Sc. (Ag.). She has more than two
years of teaching experience and also served as a peer reviewer for publishing several articles.
She has published more than 5 research articles and 3 review papers in national and international
journal. She has also participated in several national and international seminars and symposium. |

Dr. C. Chinnusamy | Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. He obtained his M.Sc (Agri.) and Ph.D from Tamil Nadu
Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He has an experience for over 35 years in teaching, research
and extension. He published about 138 scientic articles in national and international journals,
six number of books and 25 book chapters. He has served as Dean, Agricultural College and
Research Institute, Madurai during 2013 to 2015 and Principal of Vanavarayar Institute of
Agriculture, Pollachi during 2019-20. He guided Nine students for Post graduate and Ten Ph.D in
Agronomy. He has been honored with18 Individual awards including Fellow and Gold Medal of
Indian Society Agronomy and Indian Society of Weed Science and Crop and Weed Science Society and 18 Team Awards
including three-time ICAR AICRP on Weed Management Best Centre Award. He had International Academic Exposure to
attend training, symposium & Conferences in USA, China, Turkey, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Canada, Australia, Turkey,
Singapore, Malaysia and Chezh Republic. |

Dr. K.Rajendran | Dr. K.Rajendran, is presently working as Professor (Agronomy) in Karunya Institute of
Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. He obtained his UG, PG and Ph.D., from Tamil Nadu
Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He is the receiver of INSURF fellowship, IRRI for this
Doctoral Research. He has an experience of over 30 years in teaching, research and extension. He
is one of the authors of Cotton Monograph. He guided 7 M.Sc and 4 Ph.D students in Agronomy.
He published about 50 articles in national and international journals. He has also published four
book chapters |
Book Description
Agriculture is the backbone of our society, way of life and not an occupation. History is dened as the continuous record of past events, whereas heritage denotes the values and traditional practices adopted in ancient India, and agriculture heritage relates to the values and the traditional agricultural practices adapted in ancient time and world, which are more relevant for present day system. Likewise, one should be proud of our agriculture as it has lot of inherited sustainable practices passed from one generation to other generation. The objectives of the book are to increase awareness and implant a sense of pride amongst the people of the rich unique heritage of Indian agriculture, to know as our agriculture has sustainable practices for generations and to stimulate scientic research based on traditional technology. This book is intended as a text book for under-graduate students in agriculture. Hopefully, the information contained herein will be a valuable reference to professional faculty members, agricultural scientists and students. Citations are avoided in the text so that the reader is not distracted. At the end of the book, a list of references has been given from which most of the material in the book is drawn. Theses references will also help students for further readings. The authors acknowledge with greater indebtedness the authors of various books, bulletins, monographs, periodicals and published papers from which most of the information for this book have been collected. Sincere efforts have made by the authors to make this book self-explanatory and useful, however, any suggestions for improvement will be highly appreciated.
