Book Description
Power system consists mainly three major components namely generation, transmission & distribution with transformers. From the power system hierarchy, it can be noted that as the generated supply voltages are almost sinusoidal, the quality of power will be maintained satisfactorily up to first component. Therefore, this work focuses mainly on the remaining components modeling, harmonic analysis and their mitigating techniques. Due to the proliferation of power electronic devices & converters into the network, maintaining electrical power quality according to the standards has become a most concerned problem for utilities & their consumers. Power electronic technology recent advancements providing compensating & conditioning of harmonic distortions which are generated by non-linear loads. Lack of full harmonic reduction, complexity in the design, additional circuits with controllers and increased cost are some of the disadvantages even though many compensating techniques exist. Comparative analysis of different control strategies for individual components considering suitable networks are carried out in the present work.
