Dr Xavier Vinayaraj N V is working as assistant professor in the department of School of Social Work, De Paul institute of Science & Technology (DiST) Angamaly, Kerala since 2019. His Specialization is in Medical & Psychiatric Social Work. He has MSc (APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY), MA (Philosophy), MSW, NET, PGDRD, PGDHRM. He did his Internship in James Cook University & Red Cross Australia. He has President Certicate in Scout. He had experience in rendering counseling services to children and their families at the Child Guidance Center, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli and various institutions. He worked as Assistant Professor in Marian College, Kuttikanam (Autonomous). He has participated and presented 23 scientic papers in various National and International Conferences and published 19 articles in International, National Journals and in edited books. He has organized International Conference on Social Work Practice in Mental Health and various National level workshops and conference. He is the reviewer of Springer Journal –“Journal of Community Health” and DCRD Journal, DIST Angamaly. Dr.J.O.Jeryda Gnanajane Eljo is Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work since June 2008. Specialized in Medical & Psychiatry and working with Children, Adolescents and Mental Health. She has produced 11 Ph.D. and 17 M.Phil. Scholars. She has completed a UGC Minor Research Project on “Study Habits among Slum Children in Tiruchirappalli”. She has participated and presented 43 scientic papers in various National and International Conferences and published 73 articles in International Peer Reviewed Journals, 31 in National Journals and 49 articles in edited books. She is the reviewer of Springer Journal –“Journal of Community Health”. Developed a “School Mental Health Inventory” (2017). She was the Director i/c of Students Counselling and Grievances Redressal Cell of Bharathidasan University. She has established a Child Guidance and Counselling Centre and provides free counseling services to school. She has organized 2 International Conferences and 2 National level workshops. She is one of the Subject Expert and Core Committee Member for drafting Tamil Nadu State Policy for Children during the year 2015 to 2017. She is the Coordinator of Linnaeus Palme International Teachers and Students Exchange Programme of the Department and visited University West in Sweden in 2019 for planning visit. Previously she worked for 12 years in Department of Social Work, Cauvery College for Women, Tiruchirappalli. She had visited UMEA University in Sweden as a Full time visiting Lecturer from the Department of Social Work under Linnaeus Palme International Teachers Exchange Programme for 5 weeks (May to June 2008) and has travelled to Paris, Rome and Venice.

Book Description

The study on knowledge and attitude of adolescent boys about Reproductive Health” was conducted among adolescent boys in government model residential school Wayanad, Kerala. The aim is to study the knowledge and attitude among adolescent boys on Reproductive Health. This includes knowledge about Reproductive Health among Adolescent boys, attitude among Adolescent boys towards Sex, attitude towards Sex Education, attitude towards Pornography and attitude towards pre-marital Sex. The data was collected based on a self-prepared questionnaire and standardized scale. The researcher adopted censes method and selected both the higher secondary schools. Again censes method was adopted th and the researcher included all adolescent boys from standard 9 , 10th, 11th and 12th from both the higher secondary schools. Hence the sample of the study consists of 297 adolescent boys from Government Residential Higher Secondary Schools. The researcher in accordance with the objectives and variables of the present study framed the questionnaire which includes socio demographic prole of adolescents and Reproductive Health. The following scales were also uses besides self prepared questionnaire. Attitude towards sex questionnaire prepared by Sandhya Sharma (1986) Attitude towards pornography questionnaire prepared by Amit Abraham (1997), Attitude towards premarital sex questionnaire prepared by Amit Abraham (1997) and Sex educational attitude scale questionnaire prepared by R V Patil (1988). The data collected were carefully coded and after coding, the collected quantitative data was analyzed Statistical methods. Statistical tests such as mean, standard deviation, Chi- Square, 'F' test or analysis of variance, Karl Pearson's coefcient of correlation and't' test were used. Chi-square test was used to nd out the association between independent and dependent variables. 'F' or ANOVA test was used to nd out the signicant difference among more than two groups. Karl Pearson's co-efcient correlation was used to nd out the relationship between independent variables and the key variables. The study shows that more than half of the respondents (43.8%) have low level of Knowledge about Men's involvement in Reproductive Health. More than half of the respondents (58.9%) have low level Knowledge about Reproductive health. More than half of the adolescent boys (52.9%) have low attitude towards Reproductive Health. Half of the adolescent boys (51.5%) have low attitude towards premarital sex. More than half of the respondents (55.2%) have low attitude towards Pornography. More than half of the adolescent boys (58.2%) have low attitude towards sex. Majority of the adolescent boys (61.6%) have low attitude towards sex education. The adolescent boys in schools lack proper knowledge about Reproductive Health. The adolescents are curious to know the changes happening in them during puberty period. Due to lack of proper education from teachers and parents they are tempted to full their curiosity from unauthenticated sources. This in turn makes them more vulnerable to Reproductive Health Issues and many misunderstanding in the area of sex and sexuality and curious about attitude towards pornography, premarital sex, and sex education. Therefore proper trained professionals are needed to educate the adolescents; or the teachers should be updated with information and skills to teach adolescent boys in a tting manner.
