Book Description

Congenital anomalies are disorders/defects which are present from birth. It is also known as birth defects, congenital disorders or congenital malformations. Congenital anomalies can be defined as structural or functional malformations (e.g. metabolic disorders) which occur during development of baby in pregnancy and can be identified prenatally, at birth or later in life. The first edition of Awareness on common congenital genetic disorders deals with abnormalities associated with infants and child with particular emphasis on its diagnosis and treatment. Through this book we have attempted to provide clear and concise information about different major abnormalities associated with child. The main motive behind writing this book is to make common (non-scientific) people aware of these abnormalities which help in improving the health condition of society. The major and common congenital anomalies have been discussed separately in each chapter. We have tried to explain each anomalies in a very simple sophisticated language so that it can be easily understand even by a person from non-medical/non-scientific background. Here, each disease has been discussed on different perspective like cause, signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. Sincere efforts have been made to support textual clarification and explanation with the help of chart and figures. We hope readers will find this book relevant, informative and interesting. Our patients were the original inspiration for the first edition of this book, and we remain continually grateful to them, because it is their simple question about disease that make us to write in simple and clear way.
