Dr. Luna Moni Das | Dr. Luna Moni Das, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of
Geography, Vasanta College for Women, affiliated to the
privilege of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She was
awarded a Ph.D. from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
She has completed her Master's Degree from the Centre for the
Studies of Regional Development, School of Social Science,
Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, in the year 2011. She
Secured first class first position in B.Sc. Geography, with distinction marks in pass course, in
Gauhati University for the year 2009. She was awarded NET and JRF in Earth, Atmospheric,
Ocean and Planetary Sciences by the CSIR. She is expertise in Physical Geography,
Geomorphology and Environment Geography. She has to her credit the experience of
teaching both Under Graduate and Post Graduate level. She has guided many M.A.
dissertations during her teaching carrier. She has contributed to a number of research papers
in reputed international and national journals. |
Book Description
This book is aimed at understanding floods in the Jiadhol River basin. This river is a north bank tributary of the Brahmaputra River. Every year it causes sever flood in two district of Assam, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur District. This book is divided in to six Chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction to flood studies conducted by different scholars. The second chapter gives the geoenvironment of the Jiadhol river basin, with the aim of understanding the physical factors that have a significant role to play in the existing hydrogeomorphic characteristic of the drainage basin. The characteristic of Jiadhol river flood are discussed in details in the third Chapter. The fourth Chapter is based on the causative analysis of the occurrence of floods in the Jiadhol river basin. The fifth Chapter deals with implication of the flood in Jiya Dhol river basin. This chapter has two broad sections, the first deals with the geomorphic or physical implications of floods, while the second section deals with the implication of floods on the people of the basin. The final chapter is basically a conclusion of the whole study. This book will definitely help those scholars engaged in flood studies.
