Ms. Foluke O. Areola

The First Female President of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria. She is the current head of Aquatic (Fish) Resources Quarantine of the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services. She ensures a first line of defense for aquatic resources through a series of policy guidelines and implementation strategies. She also assures safe export of these resources by strict adherence to internationally accepted guidelines. Most recently, in 2012-2014, she was Acting Director, Federal Department of Fisheries, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nigeria. She is also involved in policy formulation and implementation at the regulatory and developmental levels, providing a platform for inter-sectoral and interagency collaboration; public and private partnerships, and capacity building through donor agency sponsorship of training and development projects. Her various roles in National, Regional and International Agricultural Business, Gender issues, Mycotoxins and Control, have broadened her interest in Agriculture as an engine of socio-economic growth and development. She also served as a Technical Committee member of the Partnership for African Fisheries.

Dr (Mrs) MojisolaEdema

Dr (Mrs) Mojisola Edema was an Associate Professor with the Department of Food Science and Technology, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. She was also a fellow of the prestigious African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) CGIAR Gender and Diversity programme. She was the Ag. Director, Centre Gender Issues in Science and Technology (CEGIST) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). Her main fields of research were food biotechnology and food safety and she had exceptional skills in fermentations for foods, product development and renewable resource management for feed and fuel generation. She was the Editor of the Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria between 2008-2012, Associate Editor of the Nigerian Food Journal (NIFOJ)- the official journal of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) and Applied Tropical Agriculture (ATA) the journal of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Science (SAAT), FUTA.

Dr. Emmanuel Olubisi Ewuola

A Faculty member of the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. His research interest includes Reproductive physiology, Mycotoxins and animal physiological responses, Reproductive toxicity, Immunology and endocrine-gonadal interaction on reproductive potential and fertility, Feed manipulation and Intestinal mucosa development, growth promoters and reproductive efficiency. Yinka Somorin

A doctoral student in Ph.D. in Microbiology at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He was a Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Food and Feed Science and Nutrition, Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Piacenza, Italy, where he conducted research on mycotoxins in yam flour with funding from the MycoRed project of the European Commission FP7. His research interests span mycotoxins, process optimisation for microbiological safety of African fermented foods and stress response in Escherichia coli. He has many publications in international peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of several international learned societies and is actively involved in science outreach activities and enjoys volunteering for developmental activities.

Currently an Assistant Director (Research) at the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute. His work focus is on Food Crops and Products Microbiological Quality and Safety Assurance in issues of post-harvest practice and technology development. Towards the end of December 2013, Prof.OlusegunAtanda, the Immediate President of the Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria (MSN), in his usual humorous demeanour,attempted to disrupt our Christmas holiday by suggesting that we should immediately produce a compendium to collate research efforts in the various aspects of mycotoxicologyin West Africa and requested, Dr (Mrs) MojisolaEdemato be the Editor-In-Chief. Mycotoxins are toxic secondary fungal metabolites which have impacted health, trade and agriculture. Though the mycotoxin problem is a global one, developing countries, especially West African countries are seriouslyaffected by their deleterious effects.Nigeria in particular, has experienced high recorded aflatoxin exposure levels in humans and has also reported the highest estimated number of cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC-liver cancer) attributable to aflatoxins in the world (http://dx.doi.org/10.5772/55664).Mycotoxins have also been associated with malnutrition, stunting, lowered immune response and increased severity of HIV/AIDS.The high level of poverty, food insecurity and lack of awareness contribute to this problem
