Book Overview

Employee Engagement is an emerging growing concept in the field of management of human resources in an organization. It is also called as the worker engagement or work engagement. The term was coined by US Army researchers when studying its army towards their involvement in combating for a battle. It is the level of commitment and involvement an employee has towards their organization and its values. It is a positive attitude held by the employees towards the organization and its values. Thus employee engagement can be defined as the measureable degree of an employee′s positive or negative emotional attachment to their job, colleagues and organization which profoundly influences their willingness to learn & perform at work. It is distinctively different from satisfaction, motivation, culture, climate and opinion. An engaged employee is the one who is fully involved in, enthusiastic about his or her work, and thus will act in a way that furthers their organization′s interests. Moreover employees are considered as the assets of an organization. It thus becomes important for organizations to study its employees, whose performance underlie, judge and decide the performance and growth of the organization finally.
