Book Overview

Digestive problems are a common feature in human history across populations. But, in the ancient times, it was never considered as disease and was treated using simple household remedies or modification of diet. Current management approach is aimed towards symptomatic relief which rarely involves detailed history and diagnosis. This in turn leads to prescription of multiple medications and therapies that, in fact, have an adverse impact on overall health and nutrition in the long term. Indigestion often results from exposure of the stomach to quality and quantity of food that it is not physiologically designed to handle. To some extent, this tolerance varies among individuals and it could depend on several factors related to genes or environment. The digestive diseases and disorders have been grouped under a common terminology called â€Dyspepsia†which is a Greek term literally meaning â€bad digestion†It entails all the symptoms that may originate from the gastro–duoenal region such as fullness, discomfort, early satiation (feeling of fullness), bloating, heartburn, belching, nausea, vomiting, or pain 1.2.
